| The old salt pans in the area of Janubio and the lovely wild black beach. These old salt-pans are only used to a small degree nowadays. In earlier days much more salt was collected. One can see the many small pans quite clearly where the sea water was left to evaporate, leaving the salt behind. Some of the old buildings are also visible. On the other side of the bay, beyond the salt-pans, there is a car-park, from which one can walk along the natural beach of black sand and admire the waves. Great rollers crash onto the beach and one breathes crystal clear sea air. The road leads through fields of broken lava rocks, past a green lagoon, towards EI Golfo. There is a lovely wild black beach by the lagoon, backed by menacing volcanic cliffs. But be very carful - it is not the place for swimming - it's to dangerous! |

From there it is not far to drive to "El Golfo" - a lonely fishermens village - now with famous fish restaurants and other bars and placeas next to the wild beach. The rocky beach is fantastic... The village of El Golfo is best known for its restaurants which provide freshly caught fish. A wonderful excursion with impressive experiences of nature! |
