Village Playa Blanca

The small fishing village of Playa Blanca has grown to a modern and luxury holiday center on Lanzarote. It makes an attractive holiday destination with lots of possibilities. The newly built promenade is the heart of the place for visitors, with its rows of cafés and restaurants. In Babylonian fashion, all sorts of languages can be heard there. English mixes with Spanish, French, German, Dutch and Scandinavian. At midday and especially in the evenings, when everyone has returned from the beach, the promenade walk is full of people.

Swimming in Playa Blanca.

The nicest beach is the Playa Dorada, or Golden Beach. lt is near the centre of the village, very clean and, being partly man-made, it is well protected and safe.

There is also another small beach between the restaurants and shops in the middle of the center.
And behind the harbour you will find another beach called Playa Flamingo, with a lively atmosphere around.

The beautiful natural beaches of Papagayo are famous and can be reached on foot, about 35 minutes along a coastal track. They can also be reached by mountain bike or car along an unmade-up dust road.

By Boat to Fuerteventura.

The ferries go from Playa Blanca several times a day to the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura ( approx. 40 minutes). There, the 55km of sandy beaches, some of the most beautiful in Europe, undoubtedly make Fuerteventura one of the most loved holiday places for swimming and surfing. There are two main tourist centres, Corralejo in the north (where the ferry from Lanzarote docks), and Jandia in the south. The great dunes near Corralejo can be seen from Lanzarote on a clear day. Betancuria, the old capital of Fuerteventura, is well worth a visit, with the Casa Maria, one of the very best restaurants on the island.

The new pedestrian precinct is right in the centre of the village and full of shops, where one can wander about and look for gifts to take home. There is also an elegant Beauty Parlour where visitors can spoil themselves. There are Cafés and Restaurants to suit every taste. Despite all this Playa Blanca retains the atmosphere of a small and charming village.
