Famara

Here a singular view from the Famara mountains 500 meters down to the wide beach with smooth waves and the village of Famara.

Famara - inbetween mountains and the ocean
Famara:
At the foot of the Risco cliffs in the northern part of Lanzarote.

Famara is something of an alternative village, away from the tourist route.
The place with its small white houses dotted about in random fashion, lies in a wide, open landscape at the foot of mighty cliffs.

The roads in the village are mostly just sandy tracks and the beach is wild and left to nature. There is a complex of bungalows which climbs the slope in somewhat haphazard way. A strong northerly wind blows almost always, creating great waves for the happy surfer.
In Famara one can eat well at a reasonable price, especially if one enjoys fresh local fish. One can sit here with the unique backdrop of cliffs and listen to the sound of the waves.

View to Famara
lt is well worthwhile taking a trip to Famara, the road alone is an experience no to be missed.

Green landscape in the wintertime
The greening of Lanzarote.

In winter if the rains come the brown landscape quickly turns to green. Grass and wild flowers spring up out of the earth.
